General physiotherapy in Brisbane City (what we help with)

General physiotherapy is for the everyday problems that stop you moving well, from desk-related neck and back pain to sporting niggles, joint stiffness, and injuries that just won’t settle.

At AHF Physiotherapy, we focus on:

  • Assessing and treating pain and inflammation (so you can move more comfortably)
  • Fixing the drivers (so it’s less likely to keep returning)
  • Improving mobility, strength, and muscular endurance (promoting long-term health)

Common reasons Brisbane City clients see us include:

  • Back pain, sciatica and stiffness

  • Neck pain, headaches and postural strain

  • Knee, hip and shoulder pain

  • Sprains, strains and tendon/overuse issues

  • Post-surgery rehab and returning to activity

  • Persistent pain that keeps flaring up

Whether you’re dealing with a niggling office-related injury, or just want to move better, our physios use evidence-based techniques and tailored exercises to help get you back on track.

What to expect in your first appointment

Your first appointment is a private, individual consultation with your physiotherapist.

1) We listen and assess

We’ll ask about your symptoms, lifestyle, work setup, training load and goals. Then we’ll do a thorough assessment to find what’s driving your pain and movement limits.

2) You get a clear plan

We’ll explain what we think is going on (in plain language), what matters most for recovery, and what we’ll do next.

3) Treatment starts straight away

Where appropriate, treatment may include hands-on manual therapy techniques and targeted exercises with clear guidance on what to do between sessions.

You’ll leave with a clearer diagnosis, a simple plan, and practical next steps you can actually follow. Once symptoms settle, we help you rebuild strength, control and confidence so the problem is less likely to return.

FAQ

Physiotherapists are qualified healthcare professionals who are experts in the structure of the human body and its movement. Using physical techniques, they help people affected by injury, disability, or illness to reduce pain and stiffness, improve movement and speed up the healing process.

Physiotherapists use a wide range of treatment methods to help restore movement and prevent the re-occurrence of injuries, including:

  • joint manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain and stiffness
  • soft tissue massage and dry needling
  • exercise programs to strengthen muscles and improve mobility
  • sports and kinesiology taping to stabilise injuries and aid muscle movement

There are many reasons you may choose to see a physiotherapist. If pain is limiting your work, training, sleep or daily activities, or if a problem keeps returning, it’s worth getting assessed. Early guidance often prevents small issues becoming long-term patterns.

Some of the more common reasons include:

  • musculoskeletal disorders such as back pain, neck pain or arthritis
  • sporting injuries such as muscle strains, or tendon, knee and shoulder injuries
  • chronic pain management
  • occupational or work-related injuries
  • surgical pre and post-operative rehabilitation
  • injury prevention

Not at all. While our physiotherapists are highly experienced in the field of sports physio, they treat a wide range of conditions. Whether you’re an athlete recovering from a sports-related injury, an individual seeking relief from chronic pain, someone in need of post-operative rehabilitation, or looking to prevent injury, our physiotherapists have the knowledge and experience to guide you on your journey to recovery.

Physiotherapists are first contact practitioners, meaning you don’t need a referral from a doctor to see a physiotherapist. However, it is common for physiotherapists to work with other allied health professionals and medical practitioners to help you achieve the best possible outcome from your treatment.

Some people qualify for Medicare assisted physiotherapy, and in such cases a referral from your GP is needed for the Medicare rebate.

At AHF Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists are providers with all private health funds. Bring your private health fund card with you to your appointment and we can process your claim on the sport with HICAPS. You can check with your health fund to find out what rebate you are eligible for.

You should wear something comfortable that allows you to move around with ease. Please note that part of your treatment may involve exercise on the gym floor and therefore closed shoes (e.g. sports shoes, trainers) are recommended.
